Job Description

Dynacare  is currently searching for Laboratory Assistant to join our Toxicology team in Edmonton, Alberta. This is a casual position working Monday to Saturday, various shifts.



  • Receives and confirms security of specimen packages
  • Verify all information on Chain-of-Custody forms
  • Record and report questionable integrity of specimen or documentation
  • Identify and input accounts, test codes and other applicable information
  • Pour off specimens to testing containers according to procedure for a variety of tests
  • Log and store original specimen containers in secured storage
  • Dispose of specimens properly according to procedure
  • Solve problems related to forensic processing
  • Clarify and retrieve missing information
  • Ensure that quality control checks are performed as required
  • Prepare for regular inspections by governing regulatory bodies


Must have:

  • Graduate of Lab Assistant course or equivalent
  • Ability to identify and prioritize problems encountered with analysis
  • Ability to find corrective actions to solve problems
  • Excellent data entry skills


Nice to have:

  • Ability to work reliably and effectively as a team member
  • Demonstrated success at building relationships ad collaborating with a network of internal colleagues
  • Frequently makes independent decisions that affect handling of patient specimens
  • Must be organized and take initiative
